It is so easy for our spirits to be broken. It is the most unpleasant feeling in the world...That feeling when despair overtakes you and you can hardly breathe from the enormity of it all. It is often born of a tragedy or a life changing event that leaves you crushed and broken into a million pieces. Or, it can blindside you totally from nowhere and bring you to your knees in tears. In a way, the latter comparison is the worse because you have no idea where it comes from or how to escape it. It's just there, hanging around your neck like a ragged mink stole, sucking the very marrow of life right out of you. Sound familiar to anyone?
i have felt both. And, difficult as it is to go through unpleasant, life altering events, at least we know the reason we feel the way we do. It's those unguarded moments that reach up and grab us in a choke hold that renders us incapable of rational thought, much less the ability to escape the depressive state that surely follows.
When our spirits get broken and crushed, trampled to death under the stampede of life, it is comforting to meditate on the Word of God. It is there we find our oasis of rest in the desert. It is there the lion learns how to roar again. It is there the runner gets respite from the race. A merry heart is a state of being. It is a mindset, often a difficult one to maintain, but it is a mindset, nonetheless. It is also, to coin a new word a "spirit-set." We tune our spirits into His Holy Spirit. We find peace, we find joy, we find merriment. We find love, unconditional in its intensity, lavish in its excellency.
May the God of merry hearts keep our "spirit-set" on Him today and every day. God bless.
