Endings

This year has been a challenging one in many ways, with lots of changes in my life. I can honestly say, I am glad this year is coming to a close.  As I ponder what changes I need to make in the coming year (and changes always happen, don't they?), it makes me a little bit excited. Excited for the New Year and for what's ahead for the agency in 2017. I will be using some new techniques and technology more than ever in the coming months. It means changing some things, but it's changes to help my clients, and that's a great, superfine thing! More to come on the changes...have a great evening!

Merry Christmas

Tonight, we had Christmas with my family. Mom was here, as was my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. There's nothing quite like a family Christmas, is there? Good food, good conversation, good times! As I am lying here in my bed, Mom snoring like a freight train, I never want to take Gods blessings for granted. I have a good life. It may not be a life that I would've chosen, but it is still a good life. This Christmas, I have been very introspective. Contemplating changes in the new year, I suppose, but also contemplating the life of Jesus. The second greatest change that ever happened here on planet Earth was the birth of Christ. The first was His death. I can't think about His birth without pondering His death. How much Jesus loved mankind! To not only be born for us, but to also die for us! It's unfathomable! And it's precious.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God bless!

Christmas Traditions

Christmas traditions are part of what makes the holiday season so special. One of our families traditions is that my sister and I would sing "White Christmas" and do a little dance act with rolls of wrapping paper every year. Even now, my daughter and I do this sometime during the holiday season...it brings back precious memories. What are some of your favorite traditions? I'd love to hear your stories. Visit my Facebook page and leave your comments!

Christmas Party

We had our annual Christmas party today at The Chop House in Kingston Pike in Knoxville. The food was great and it was a great time reminiscing about the past year and talking about exciting things to come on 2017. Very proud to be a part of the Southern Stars and the Terry Anderson team!

On Top Of Old Smoky

In honor of the Smoky Mountains, I am posting a few pictures from a weekend stay earlier this year. For those of us who grew up in this area, the Smokies will always hold a special place in our hearts, and here's why: it was a place of wonderful childhood memories. It was a place where dads drove families on Sunday afternoons after church. It was a place where the kids all waded in creeks and hoped they'd see a bear. It was a place where  Dollywood used to be Rebel Railroad. It was a great escape for all of us Knoxvillians, and we didn't even have to leave the state. The Smoky Mountains were as much a part of our lives as Regas Restaurant or Emory's Five and Dime. And it grew over the years to accommodate others who discovered the glorious Mountain magic. It became famous.

We Tennessee folk are resilient individuals. We don't give up. We don't give in. We stand strong. And so does our Mountain. The Smokies will be great again, more beautiful, more lovely, more clear, than ever before. Here's to you, Great Smoky Mountains! We love you! You are in our hearts and in our souls!

Sleepytime

Last night was one of those nights...the kind where you wake up at 3:00 in the morning and can't get back to sleep. Sound familiar to anyone?  I tried for two hours and finally decided at 5:00 that I might as well get on up because all I was doing was worrying and wrinkling the sheets.

To say that my little doggie was unhappy would be understating just a bit. Queen Trixie isn't used to being disturbed before 7:00, so she looked at me like I'd shot her firstborn puppy when I took her outside to potty. It's  funny that she is a little sleepyhead, sleepless as I am sometimes. The dog could sleep through almost anything once she gets a good snooze going on. She finally conked out on her bed, right beside me at the office. That dog bed looks pretty inviting...the Queen has a better bed than I do...

Moment

I have written before about moments that define our lives. Monday was such a moment. As I have written before, my Mother has Alzheimer's Disease. We have been providing In home care for her for the last four years. Monday that came to an end, as we had to admit her to an assisted living facility. It was   too difficult for us to keep her at home.

I am so grateful for the ladies who were responsible for her care. One lady, in particular, Donna, has become like a sister to me and like a mother to Mom. She has helped so much with this transition. And as she helped me move Mom's stuff, realizing that within a few days her things would be in disarray as is the case with Alzheimer's patients, it occurred to me that no matter our circumstances, God is with us. Even in this difficult circumstance, the Lord holds us tight and keeps us near to his heart. We are blessed.

Scholarship

Today I am happy to be able to present a scholarship to Oliver Springs High School. I was blessed to have some marketing money from the Home Office and they graciously allowed me to use it to set up this scholarship fund on behalf of the agency. It's small, but hopefully, we can continue to do this year after year. Mr. Nivens, the principal, is such a great guy. If you have a child who is a student there, thank him and thank the staff. They are really good folks!

Client Appreciation Day

On Friday, we had a client appreciation day here at the office.  If I were a highly organized individual, I would have had someone take pictures of the office and my wonderful clients.  Since I am, however, NOT a highly organized individual, this stock photo will have to do...We had a wonderful time visiting with our clients and had a great lunch provided by Kroger Deli.  All in all, it was a day to catch up with some old friends, connect with some new ones, and eat deli sandwiches and chocolate candy 'til we were all a little sugar crazy.

I have stated this before, but it never hurts to say again...I love our clients.  They are the best folks in the entire world.  Trixie agrees!  I did manage to take a picture of the chocolate gift basket we gave away, and I'm including it here.

Even though I have no pictures of this event, it will be forever in my memory as a great day we shared with our clients.  Hope you all have a great week, and God bless you!

Doggy Life

Please take note of this lovable, sweet, little doggy face...innocent, precious, adorable. Please note rawhide chew in adorable puppy's mouth. Momma has just walked into the room and observed said adorable puppy trying to bury said rawhide chew in the sofa, resulting in a scolding from said Momma. Said Momma can't be mad because of the cuteness factor of said precious puppy...

The Front Porch

Today I am making a shameless plug for The Front Porch, home to some of the finest southern dining you'll ever put in your mouth, and primitive decor shop. It's a great place to have a wonderful meal, find that special something for your home, or the perfect gift for family and friends. I was fortunate enough to be the lucky winner of this adorable Christmas deer and a $25 gift certificate! I sincerely love that place. The owners, Bart and Cindy Elkins, are two of the finest people you will ever meet. And with little to no encouragement, they will be glad to share the history of the house and the community. It's always nice to support a local business, and The Front Porch is a great one to visit, and visit often!

Grooming the Dog

I dropped Trixie off this morning at the groomers. It is amazing how that sweet little dog has wormed her way into my life! I kept looking at the clock, waiting on them to call me to come pick her up and bring her back here to the office. it was a long day without her. Of course, I had to get her a rawhide treat because she was such an excellent little girl. I went early to get her and watched them groom her though the glass window. The lady did such a good job with her and Trixie was perfect.

I used to have a German Shepherd dog named Harley. Harley was a good boy, too. Through a difficult set of circumstances I had to rehome him after Greg passed away and I moved.  Looking back on that, I know now that I was in no shape to take care of myself, much less a dog, so it was the best thing for all around. But still, it bothered me. It has only been lately that I felt like I could actually take care of something besides myself, and I began thinking about another dog. I am glad I found this one. She is perfect for me. I believe the good Lord had a hand in this. I know He helped me find a home for Harley when I was in desperate need of one. And a better home than I could give him. So now here's Trixie, a lovable little fur ball that has somehow managed to squirm her way into my heart in a matter of hours. I don't know what I did without her. Thank You, Lord, for Your wisdom.

Office Dog

Trixie came to work with me today. The office is going to be her new home during the day. When I got her, I determined that I not only wanted her to be a part of my life, but part of my clients' lives as well.  She has spent the day lounging beside me on the rug and sitting behind me on my chair. She has been a welcome addition.

The power of a pet to help relieve stress and heal hurt cannot be overstated. She has been such a relaxing influence on me, forcing me to slow my pace down and take time to just breathe. This is a good thing. And lest I start to be one of those little old ladies who constantly post pictures of their pets, well here's one more picture...and it most likely won't be my last...

And BTW, I have on my "Cox Strong" shirt today. For those of you who dont know, my Pastor, Greg Cox, is battling cancer. And I say battling because it truly is a battle. Not only is it a battle of the flesh but the battle in the mind is just as bad, if not worse than what goes on in the body. Please take a moment to pray for him and his family and donate to gofundme on his behalf if you feel led to do so. It is a great way to show that you care and you truly couldn't help a better family. God bless you all and have a great evening.

Trixie

I have done something I said I'd never do again...I have acquired a dog. I have named her Trixie Belle, although I should have called her Dancing Bear because she stands up in her hind legs and paws at the air. She is adorable.

I have no idea what has gotten into me. I didn't want anything to impede my life. Yet, here I am, an old hippy with a lapdog. and I love it. She has won me over.

If you come by the office, you will meet her. I will be bringing her to work with me on most days, provided she does well at the office. She is a precious little thing. And the best thing, since I have canine allergies, I haven't sneezed once. She is laying right here on the couch with me and, God bless her little heart, she looks at me with genuine love and devotion. She will learn soon enough how flawed humans are. It is hard to be the person your dog thinks you are. Here's her picture. Hope you all stop in to see us!

October Skies

Sherry and I worked at the "October Skies" Festival in Oliver Springs yesterday. It was a really fun day! We met lots of nice folks, ate  a ton of good food, and listened to some lively music. Janelle Arthur was there and she always sings beautifully!

Sherry works for Oak Ridge Memorial Park, which is a non profit cemetery right off Bethel Valley Road. In case you might think this is creepy, Sherry is a great gal with a passion to help people during the most difficult time of their life...the death of a loved one. Our industries go hand-in-hand at times.

Here is a picture of us at the festival with Little Man, her lttle dog she takes with her wherever she goes. He is such a good Boy. She dressed him up in a little pumpkin and a jockey outfit and he didn't even utter a whimper of protest.

Black Jacket Symphony

Tonight, my friend, Debbie and I went to hear the Black Jacket Symphony in concert. For those of you who may not know...this is a group of musicians that take a classic rock album and perform it, note for note, lyric for lyric. And tonight was epic...they did "Revolver" by  the Beatles. Since a portion of my personal email involves  the word "Beatles", needless to say, I was in old hippy heaven.

I did notice, though, a number of bald heads and comfortable shoes at said concert. I actually thought for a minute, "Boy, there's a lot of old people here," before I remembered...I was one of them. Not that such a thought stopped me from singing (and I use that term loosely) like a banshee, twisting like a tornado, and head banging like a boss. Yeah, the little hippy chick in the balcony who knows every word to "Taxman"...that would be me.

it was great. It was a blast. It was cleansing, in a way. There is something about the aftermath of a good ole  rock concert...even though my feet are hurting, my ears are ringing, and my eyes are drooping from trying to stay awake, I have a sense of wellbeing. John Lennon's music continues to inspire, a good meal continues to satisfy, a car ride continues to thrill. God is still on His throne and all is right with the world...good night!
